During the first part of the 19th edition of the Images Sonores festival, the Centre Henri Pousseur will be paying tribute to Karlheinz Stockhausen, the German composer who died ten years ago.

One of the most outstanding and innovating post-war composers, Stockhausen is also known as the pioneer of electro-acoustic and mixed music. During this two-day event, musicians from the Ictus ensemble will be playing 2 iconic works from the 60s : Kontakte (concert on saturday 7 October) and Mikrophonie (on Sunday 8 Oktober). However, the impressive Signale zur Invasion, his more recent work, will also be on the programme.

This work for trombone and electronics from 1992 forms part of Stockhausen’s radical opera cycle Licht, based on the seven days of the week (more specifically Tuesday). Signale zur Invasion is a melodic elaboration of signals from the second act (Invasion – Explosion) where the  trombonist – in 3 ‘invasions’, literally entering the hall each time and making his way through the audience – forces his way into the electronic music of Octophony.
