NOX BOREALIS – ENSEMBLE HOPPER
Premiere by Maija Hynninen
How can we get to the very heart of the physicality of sound? This is the question composer Maija Hynninen explores in Lumen Boréal. During the performance, the musicians are spread across different rooms and the architecture becomes an extension of the soundscape: the audience moves through the work as if they were at the very heart of the sound. Isolate yourself with a soloist and let yourself be carried away by a musical excerpt, or listen to the ensemble, complemented by live recordings, perform the work in its entirety in another room. This unique experience emphasises spatial, sonic and visual exploration.
The Hopper Ensemble, conducted by François Deppe, also performs Lichtbogen, Kaija Saariaho’s colourful work, accompanied by Jean-Baptiste Barrière’s spellbinding video installation Nox Borealis.
